HELP!!!!

I'm trying to review for my med surg final and for some reason I cannot keep myasthenia gravis separate from multiple sclerosis. Does anyone have any ways of remembering key points about each or just a simple way that I could keep them separate in my mind!!! Any help would be great!

MS is affecting nerves and MG muscles.

Specializes in Peds Homecare.

How about the initials MSN=MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (NERVES) and MGM=MYASTHENIA GRAVIS (MUSCLES) this might help.

Thank you both! That does help!!! I just have to stop and think for a moment when I get a question and figure out if it's MG or MS.. thanks!!!

Specializes in ICU, CVICU.

I always remember that Multiple Sclerosis effects the Myelin Sheath (of the nerve) - so if you know the structure of nerves, that might help!

Specializes in NICU.

I always remembered it by thinking:

Multiple Sclerosis affects the Myelin Sheath, thereby slowing nerve conduction.

Myasthenia Gravis affects Muscle Gravity thereby making you weak. (it a stretch, but it works for me).

How about the initials MSN=MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (NERVES) and MGM=MYASTHENIA GRAVIS (MUSCLES) this might help.

Totally just rocked my socks right off! :yeah:

I will always remember this... and for my Med Surg final in 2 weeks as well ;)
