Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital- Houston, TX

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello and Good Morning!

I am a nursing student that is to graduate in December of this year. I am starting to consider my options for employment and I am really interesting in Oncology Nursing. Does anyone work at, or know anything about Memorial Hermann- Memorial City Hospital? Is this a good hospital? Is it friendly to new graduates who need mentoring and guidance? What about their GN program? Do they encourage BSN students to go back to grad school?

I know that there are a lot of great opportunities down in the Medical Center, but the drive for someone who lives on the west side is killer, and gas is only getting more expensive.

I would love to talk to someone who works here. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I did clinicals at MHMC this spring. They seemed ok to me. I don't know how big their oncology unit is. I always see that Southwest Memorial Hermann at 59 and Gessner is hiring for oncology nurses. Hope this helps and good luck to you in your search!

Specializes in floor to ICU.

I went thru a LVN to RN transition program with a gal who works oncology at Memorial Hermann (Gessner). She loves it and her boss.

The whole Hermann system just layed off several hundred people. They are in a financial crunch at the moment. Friend of mine works there and told me that they were supposed to find a way to cut a large sum of money. The first thing they did was change nurses schedules so they could spread it out more and are trying not to hire anymore unless they have to. If you really want oncology, go to MD Anderson and ride the bus from the west side into the medical center. No better place for that kind of work. Good luck and welcome to Houston!
