I just interviewed there two weeks ago. It was a great experience. You will be interviewing with many people and you'll be waiting a lot. First, you'll be interviewed by the nurse recruiter or an HR person and they will ask you background question, why this hospital, what can you bring to the table, what is your ideal workplace, and stuff like that. Make sure you know the hospital mission, values, and things of that nature.

Then they ask u what areas you're interested in and you may or may not even get to interview in those areas. Anyone can pick your folder and interview you. The clinical questions depend on the floor/unit that you're applying to. And the DON for that floor will usually interview you. Just be ready for general clinical scenarios, what would you do, what orders, etc.

Good luck!!!!

P.S: they usually get back to you pretty quickly after that about whether you got the job or not

Thank you elieth! Would you say the clinical questions were tricky or just required basic nursing knowledge?

Elieth, I also see you got offered ICU position. Congrats! Would it be possible to know where (if theyre still taking applicants)? Im very interested in working on this unit but everywhere I apply specifically says "not new grad position". Please help me. Ive tried Holy Cross, Sibley, Suburban, Childrens, etc. Thanks a bunch!!

I think the clinical questions are based on nursing knowledge. They know that you are brand new, no experience, so they will ask you things that are basic and that most nurses students should know. Just go back to the basics, take your time, and sound confident in your answers. Where I got the ICU position are no longer taking applicants, and it was an internship type of deal for new grads and that's how I landed that awesome job. But keep trying, and keep looking. A lot of hospitals in DC have internships every 4-6 months and GW and Georgetown have ICU internships that you can apply to. Where did you graduate from?

Good luck with everything. Let us know how the interview goes, and don't be nervous. Think of the basics and then get fancy with your answers :)

LoveSBK, would you happen to know if MedStar requires a 2-yr or 1-yr contact to the unit? Also, whats the salary for new grads?

Sorry, I just saw this. I think Medstar is a agreement for 18 months (I'm referring to WHC) and they pay $28/hr. GW is 2 years and they pay $27/hr. I dont know if this helps.
