Medicare cuts and the nursing shortage

  1. I think all of the proposed bills could be a wonderful opportunity to bring new recruits into the nursing field.

But what about keep all of us older nurses (45+) around a little longer. I've been in nursing for 25 years.....and I'd love to spend 25 more if the conditions were just made more bearable.

In our area, the cuts in Medicare reimbursement really had a big impact on the reduction of staff at the bedside.

The government needs to loosen those purse strings. Improve reimbursement for hospital stays and more money will be available for staff, equipment, etc.

I believe a lot of us would remain in nursing instead of trying to jump ship at our earliest opportunity.
