Medical Uniforms

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi,

I am attending nursing school. I want to know how often a nurse would purchase medical uniforms. Also, how much they would spend on them.

Also, I would like the same information for nursing school as well. Thanks

jacket , top, pants, roughly cost 60.00. I have roughly 15 -20 uniforms. I usually buy 2 new sets of uniforms per year. Some years more depending on how rough the older uniforms are becoming. I find by rotating uniforms so that I am only wearing the same uniform one a month it prolongs the life of them.

bump....anyone more comments?

would you consider yourself as the "normal buyer" of scrubs or a less infrequent purchaser? Because I hear nurses usually purchase a set a month. Is that true?

The price depends on the quality you get and how much of a bargain shopper you are. I never pay more than $30 for a set of scrubs. I also rarely wear scrub jackets so that's not included in the set.

How often you buy scrubs is up to the quality of the scrubs you buy and how you wear them. A good set of scrubs tend to last me about a year.

where do most people purchase their scrubs? Do the hospitals provide a retailer?

Scrubs are bought from retailers. There are stores in malls, some chains such as walmart carry them, and this wonderful thing called the internet has a lot of really good sites to buy them.

how many sets of scrubs would you say a normal nurse carries?

I have 4 sets, but only work 2-3 days a week... Our hospital makes us use the same company and we have to buy them though this venu... This is so that we all look uniform and the families can tell the RN's from other staff... They then deduct the money weekly from our checks... It is a nice system, really...

Sort of off topic, but do hospitals require any certain color for nurses? I'm sure it depends on the hospital, but what does your hospital do? (Do ER nurses wear purple, and ICU nurses wear green, for example.)

I'm guessing you guys use a payroll deduction system. Is that prevalent in many hospitals or just yours?

Hi,

I work 3 days per week... own 4 sets of scrubs.

I purchase higher quality, and they last about a year.

So I spend about $200 per year.

When I was in school, I bought 2 sets. Since clinicals were only 1-2 times per week that was all I needed for all 4 years.
