Medical Terminology & Abbrevations Game :)

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi,

I thought it would be fun to play a little game and learn at the same time. I know there are alot of Student Nurses & Graduate Nurses so I hope ya'll participate.

So here are the rules: You have to either provide a definition to a term or give the correct name of the abbreviation (whichever the poster above you posts). Then when you answser (only if you know correctly)...then give a term or abbr. for the next person to solve (bolded if you can to make it stand out).

P.S. If there is more than one definition or name, give both.

P.S.S. Don't even think about googling it. The only resource you can use is your brain :D

Here is Mine:

Alopecia

Good luck & have fun! :D

SAD = seasonal affective disorder

yes, that's the real meaning of the abbreviation. unfortunately, he uses it for schizoaffective disorder, which is something quite different!

you did so well - google or no google.

what about OOHA and it's brother BIBA? as in "OOHA BIBA"

PUIT = Passed Urine In Toilet

(sounds like an order at the falafel shop) 2 OOHA BIBAs and 1 PUIT please.

here's another: MIL and FIL

One thing which I've noticed is the number of variations in these abbreviations. The potential for error................. ecs when you get bad handwriting or serious accents. seriously - i dont even want to think about it - i want to get some sleep tonight.

5) PND - Postnasal Discharge/drainage

6) FITH'S DISEASE - some type of virus? (been awhile since I saw/heard this one)

7) CAD - Coronary Artery Disease

8) PUIT - purple urine in tube (I totally don't know this one!)

9)TURP - Transurethral Resection of the Prostate
