Med/Surg blues

Nurses General Nursing

so I hate med surg I really do and all my clinical rotations have practically been in med surg so it's been a frustrating last year of nursing school. I knew right away it wasn't for me but I tried giving it a shot and liking it but I can't something in me is just not clicking with it, it doesn't have the hustle and bustle anything can happen feel I get from the few times I was blessed with trauma or emergency. Obviously I know I want to work in one of those two but I also love kids so I want to try and combine them. So I'm asking for your stories of getting into trauma, ER or peds as a new grad nurse.

Do you have the sheet-music for this song? I see the lyrics but not the chords. í ½í¸

Med surg is excellent experience to help you learn the skills and physiology you need to know to be an ER nurse. Appreciate the opportunity to learn in depth from the proper time you have working with these patients in med surg.

I really depends on your local nursing climate. I live in an underserved area, so all of my classmates were able to go directly into their specialty of choice. We also have a lot of new grads come in from other areas in order to be able to go straight into their chosen specialty rather than stay where they were and have to do LTC or med-surg first. If you are lucky enough to live in an underserved area, it won't be an issue, and if you're willing to move to go straight into your preferred specialty, then that is an option too.
