hi everyone...

1. is it possible to get a job offer at an agency (maxim health care) and when i asked about salary scale and written documentation for the pay......for assignments in flu clinics/ school nurse/hospital...his answer everything all depends on facility...and i asked nothing in writing..he said ...no...we just tell you on the phone how much you are gonna be getting and if you accept it...you can go..

school nurse - 18 dollars/hr

flu clinic - 20 or mid 20s /hr

hospital - 29dollars/hr

2. the staff are all male and good looking football players who are doing nurse recruitment and not nurses

3. havent spoke to any nurse in the office except for all the office staff who have health care degrees

any advice appreciated...felt like wasting my time/gas /and i am almost done on taking their on line exams that is taking me a whole day to finish for nothing...

4. i dont like this invisible job pay scale bec they can say i never said that in the end...

5. i am with other agency too but it is not this complicated....

God help me..thanks everyone...

In Florida the rates quoted for Maxim are $18 an hour for RN's and $15 an hour for LPN's. What kind of an on-line exam is required for Maxim? Anyway, I don't work for Maxim but I did see these rates advertised for nurses here.

the thing is they dont give you a written documentation of pay.... and im scared to take in the plunge because they could change their mind that they never said that...i am thinking of sticking to my other agency because their pay rate is half of what i am earning...nurses earn 40 dollars an hour and 1000 dollar sign in bonus after 10 shifts.....

i just dont want to sacrifice my life for them.....dont want to be stuck in the rut either especially no nurses in their office...

thanks for your replies....

"2. the staff are all male and good looking football players who are doing nurse recruitment and not nurses"

If I go to a job interview like that, I'll start talking football. Turn down the job. These people aren't serious about their nurses, who, in their eyes, can be sweet talked by a handsome face into taking anything. That process as described is absolutely downright insulting.

:yeah::yeah::yeah:

they use a handsome face non nurse college football sexy abs/strong arms"" nurse recruiter"" to sweet talk us nurses for bogus salary...."hey pls. work but as for payrates...cant tell you..everything up in the air".....cant give a firm answer and documentation....

i was hoping to see a nurse...but everybody there are out of college health care degree workers...

I will say upfront that I have no experience with agency nursing - my nursing jobs have been permanent full-time staff positions.

However, I do have extensive experience with temporary staffing in my Life Before Nursing. While familiarity with various health care settings would be an asset to run a nurse staffing agency, it's not necessarily required. They are not in the health care business, they are in the business of providing temporary staffing to health care organizations who choose to staff their businesses that way or augment their permanent staff on a temporary basis. What I'm saying is, staffing (whether nurses, IT people, administrative assistants, accountants, or what have you) is essentially a sales business - you fill a need for a client, and you get paid for it.

Therefore, it absolutely makes sense to me that the pay rate for individual assignments could indeed vary quite a bit, based on the requirements of that assignment. The agency is "selling" their pool of qualified nurses to health care organizations, clients, who may need them on a temporary basis. Testing for skill competencies is certainly reasonable.

If you are getting a bad vibe from the agency staff for whatever reason, by all means don't sign on.

HTH. Good luck to you.

I worked as a receptionist in a temp agency that focused mainly on nurses. The pay did vary from job to job, but you still got something in writing with each job.

Can I ask why you're considering them? Are you not getting enough work with your current agency?

my other agency has not been given assignments lately and getting cancelled a lot ..this is going on my third week now....no work..

i do have a night shift part time position in the gero psych unit next week in the hospital.... i am applying everywhere and no calls so far... i did sign with other agencies and the process is so slow...my home health agencies are not getting any patients either so they told me they dont have anything for me....

just have to keep on living the faith ...

thanks everyone

Many, many years ago, I accepted a verbal agreement about the wages I would be getting. I was surprised to hear that they paid so very well. Of course, when I got my paycheck it was a lot less then I was told. I talked to another nurse about it. She said "Oh she says that to all the new hires. She told me the same thing too when I was first hired":down::down::angryfire:angryfire:angryfire

Something's rotten here. I would back away from this.

Decline the offer.
