I am a PRN nurse but I have to chase around for my work schedule. Sometimes my schedules are already made sometimes not. I have to call everytime. I don't feel anyone has to do this. I am this close to call DON ask her what up with this although she is not responsible making schedules.

I am also a PRN nurse. How long have you been at the facility? Don't be afraid to ask for assistance.

I finally figured out (with no help) how to schedule myself. Do want a set schedule? Do you prefer a one-day- at- a -time thing?

Take control of your schedule... one week at a time, no matter who you have to call. This will show you how the scheduling is done there.

And yes, call before you leave each and everytime in case they decided to call you off, just the name of the game.

I was originally hired as PRN (still on paper as one) and been there for nearly nearly 3 months now. At first I thought I like FT. The staff manager tried to accommodate that by scheduled me FT. But could not offer me FT on paper. So after 4 weeks on the job, I felt it was too much so I asked if I could work 2-3 day per week instead (my status as PRN I know I could). He agreed and have been put me in 2-3 days for the past several weeks, but this week has changed. I have been calling. Not able to reach the person yet and also to make sure I am not scheduling for work. I prefer to know I am not scheduled than was scheduled and not show up for the job. Today and tomorrow I am not on schedule which is unusual. I usually work these 2 days. But I will take it because my child is sick and I am not feeling well myself. TheI just feel PRN shouldn't chasing around for her schedule. I am just about to throwing a towel jumping the hope chain of command here. I am still on my probation period, approximately 2 more weeks togo before I am off. So I just don't want to jeopardize that.

I think you should speak to your manager first about your concerns before jumping right to the top.
