I remember when I was in junior high and the nursing homes would pay for your class in exchange for a commitment to work for a certain length of time. By the time I was in high school and old enough to take the class, there weren't any programs like that anymore.

The closest thing I can think of to free cna class is if you are receiving state aid and the state pays for your class. If you qualify for state assistance, talk with your case worker and tell her you are interested in taking CNA class but can't afford it.

Now that I think about it, if you were affected by the flooding, you could apply for assistance through the state even if you don't think you qualify. During your appointment, make sure you say that you are specifically interested in taking a CNA class.

Try calling the local nursing homes. Often they will offer CNA classes (through the local community college) with the understanding that you will work for them for a period of time. In my area (NE IA) they usually charge a nominal amount, which they refund when you complete the course or after a certain length of employment.
