Is shift differential hourly or per shift?

Hello allnurses,

I have recently been offered a FT night position and today as I was signing the paper work, the HR lady told me that I would be making a base pay of $26/hour plus my shift differential of 7.75 for weekend nights.. this seems like a lot.. is this 7.75/hour or per shift? I didn't think to ask her, I will when I am back in the office but I am just wondering if anyone had any insight.

Thank you!

Differentials are normally expressed as an hourly rate. Only way to find out for certain is to ask her.

Thank you!

I was thinking that but then felt like that was more money that what is usually offered in the southern states from what I have researched.

I'm in the South and am starting a per diem job soon. Base is 30/hour, nights 34/hour, weekend nights 38/hour. So sounds right to me!

Diffs are usually per hour. That's a nice diff if hourly.

Mine is hourly: I get $4 an hour for night and $6 an hour for weekends. (Weekends are sweet because i make $10 an hour more). I try to work as many weekends as I can but alas, so does everyone else. :)
