Internal "Lady Parts" Falling Out?!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

During a weekly visit with my 89 year old grandmother she told me that her internal "lady parts" (uterus?) fall out. She said her mother had the same problem but she had surgery to fix it (hysterectomy?). When my grandmother talked to the doctor she was told to "push 'em back in!" whenever that happens (which, according to my grandmother, is somewhat regularly). Has anyone heard of this before? I am faaaar from a nurse as I am not yet even admitted to a nursing program but I LOVE LOVE LOVE reading all of your posts and I was hoping one of you saintly nurses would be willing to help out a novice like me.

Oodles of thanks for your help with this question and for the awesome work you all do!

Sounds like your grandmother is referring to a prolapsed uterus.

It certainly happens. Look up "Uterine prolapse" for more questions to ask her and more information. Perhaps her mother had something along the lines of a "pubolady partsl sling"

I'm sorry, but we cannot offer medical advice on this board. While I'm sure your grandmother would prefer to leave things alone, she really should make an appointment with a good gynecologist, who can fit her with a pessary or schedule her for surgery to 'shore up' the prolapsed organs.

Good luck to both of you.
