Interested in learning what is a typical day/schedule like for nurses who work in Same Day Surgery and an Inpatient post operative unit. Do you work weekends? How hard was it to get into the unit? Tell me everything... lol

Thanks

There are many posts about ambulatory surgery, post op, same day, surgery, even those within an inpatient post op unit. Put your question in the search box on the right area of any page on Allnurses. If after you have read the posts over you still have some specific questions ask again.

I have worked in-patient, post-op units. After working there a while we were cross trained to the level I PACU and had to be on call for nights, weekends, holidays. But for various reasons I didn't have to take call very often. Otherwise it was Mon - Fri 6 am to (hopefully) 6:30 pm, no holidays. (No we didn't work 60 hour weeks, the hours varied.)

I transferred to that unit after 17 years of working nights, every other weekend, holidays, in acute care (YIKES). I was annoyed at myself after I got into this "Disneyland" of nursing and found co-workers who said..."Oh I didn't like med/surg, I worked there a few months, applied here and got the job."

Hard to say how and who gets jobs in what area of nursing.

Specializes in PICU.

Thanks so much for your response.
