More nurses for better nurse patient ratio. I would take more money but I did not go into nursing for the money either. I just wish I could adequately care for patients like I want. More time to spend with them and care for them.

I agree with a competent management! If it worked properly the ratio nurse-patient would be ok and both us and the patients would benefict.
Of course, i wouldn't refuse an increase in the salary...

No you don`t....worked one shift with the DON as the second nurse in 4 bed ICU...1. she didn`t ever answer a phone or a call light....
2. Was scary...she obviously hadn`t done patient care since Moses was a baby....
3. couldn`t use the pumps. didn`t know how to even use the glucometer..
All in all was a day from he$$....
I`ve always said when I win the lottery..i`ll hire someone to do all my paperwork, so I can take care of my patients,,
Until then..a raise would be appreciated, along with decent patient ratios

Eliminate the inherent abuse heaped on the caregiver and obliterate the pervasive attitude that "You asked for abuse when you chose to go into nursing." (actually said to us by a manager recently *sigh*)

Eliminate the inherent disrespect. That in itself would begin to solve the other problems.

I recently had a job that paid handsomely; but I would have traded the pay in a heartbeat for two more nurses on my unit.

What's the one thing I would change about nursing?
EVERYTHING.
