I want to learn stuff!

I have been a nurse for about 6 years now. Unfortunately sometimes it feels as though I know less now than I did in nursing school! I was only on Med-Surg about 6 months before moving to Psych where I stayed a few years and am now in Home Health. I love my job, but I just feel like I'm not learning or growing enough. I want to learn. I'd love to know the things my former ICU co-workers know. So I thought I would try to work one weekend a month on an ICU floor. No such luck. Can't work there without experience and without being full time.

I don't want to quit my job. I love the flexibility of an 8-5 Mon-Fri job with holidays off. I love the people that I work with. But I want to learn and do more. I can't afford to go back to school to get my BSN or MSN but someday I'd like to do both. I think ultimately I'd love to be a travel nurse. Maybe in 6 years when my kids have graduated. I love to travel and see new places and tend to get restless. But you need experience in acute care for that too.

I just want to be more knowledgeable in my field. I'd go back to nursing school in a heartbeat if I could! Any tips or ideas or advice? I'm open to it. Thank you in advance

Try med-surg again. You'll learn plenty and be more marketable for travel nurse positions, especially if you get tele experience.
