I recently lost my job due to "charge nurse" stating I abandoned a patient. Long story short the patient was mad about being put on a 900mL fluid restriction via the doctor. The director a nursing did he rounds and got him all upset so I asked the "charge nurse" if I could take an admit and she or someone else take over him since he was made at me. They are stating for 2 hrs I abanonded a patient. That was never my intent. Now my license is being investigated. I seriously hate nursing. Not for the patient interaction but other nurses. I had no write up, or call ins. This "charge nurse" could have talked to me as an adult instead of emailing our supervisor and ruining my career. I am thinking I should just quit nursing all together.

Sorry you're going through that. Might be time to get legal advice.

Only you can decide if it's worth staying in nursing but it seems your situation is not typical.

Did you officially hand over report on this pt or did you just ask and they say yes without any report being given?

I asked her if she wanted report and she said no. She wrote her name on the assignment board. So I thought everything was fine.

If she said no to the report and she put her own name down on the assignment board, then she took responsibility for the patient.

Clear this up BEFORE you throw in the towel. Your attitude should reflect that this is YOUR license and you're not giving them up without a fight. If your account of things is true, the board should find no wrong-doing. To not stand up and fight might be interpreted as an admission of guilt.

When this is over, or even now, LOOK FOR ANOTHER JOB. Guilt or innocent, I'd NEVER just let someone take my license away. You never know when you'll need them in the future...after the anger and hurt feelings have subsided.
