I am New and need some advice!

I need some advice from other nurses' out there. I am 25 y/o and a mother of a 4 y/o boy and two soon to be three y/o identical twin girls. I have always wanted to be a nurse, and I know that I would be a darn good one at that. I am working as a C.N.A. right now and have recently taken the entrance exam for the L.P.N. school. I really do not feel as though I passed it, and have enrolled at the local University to start my prereq.'s for my BSN. What I need advice on is, if there are other nurses that started from ground zero and had children while attending college? I do not expect at all for this to be easy, but like I said I love this field and I am told several times that I should go on.

I WILL BE A NURSE!

Wait, you're a CNA now, recently taken the entrance exam for LPN, but you enrolled in the BSN? Wow you're goning to be busy!

There are a lot of us that have started with young kids and worked and then went back to school. I'd pick one and work on that. Dont bit off more than you can chew with 3 kids, it takes a while when you have kids in the picture.

Go for it, you wont be alone. You will find many in your classes when you start the pre-reqs that are in the same situation you are. Good luck.

i am not married and do not have kids but it has been my experience that moms prevent the rest of us from getting a nice curve!! moms usually do better in classes, at least prereq's where memorization is the key. i think it might be that you all are better at utilizing time than us young carefree goof offs :) !!

in nursing school moms had it rough because of the demand for such a great time commitment, between classes, study time, clinicals, and preparing for clinicals theres not a lot of time for family.

you will do well if you realize you have to get through it, set small goals and cross them off the list, learn to balance your time between all of your needs, these are such important years with your kids but there will never be a "good" time to go to school.

good luck!

welcome stacy,

i started from ground zero also, my kids are soon to be 13, 14 and 20, so it's a little easier right now.

this is my favorite sentence from a paragraph of "words of wisdom" found on this board over a year ago.

"increase the chances of reaching your goals by working at them gradually".
