Hoyer Sling Issues

Hello, My Mom has been passing out in the hoyer sling when the nurses are transferring her to the commode. Last time her lips turned blue and her pupils got so big you couldn't see the blue in her eyes. Has anyone else experienced this, can anyone help with why this happens? Nurse actually told my Mom, "I thought you died".

Oh my. This is something that you should definitely bring up with nursing/management at the facility. Perhaps there's something about how they're positioning her in the sling. Is she particularly afraid of using the lift? Could she be holding her breath out of anxiety?

You could be onto something with the anxiety. After she slipped in the sling once, she is very fearful of it. Nurses had mentioned that this isn't happening with other residents of home that use yhe hoyer, so it seems like it's a one-off sutuation.

Maybe the nurses would be willing to do some relaxation breathing with her as she's moved into the sling.

This is an issue that really needs to be brought to the attention of your mother's attending physician as soon as possible. Good luck to you and your mother.
