Because it can happen. Any day. With any of us here. And just as heron said, both real misconduct and false accusations, by patients, families and our own colleagues.

This is a huge area of vulnerability for our male nurses. It's unfair and completely inequitable, but some organizations actually have 'chaperone' policies that establish rules that require a third person in the room when with a female patient any any male clinician. Usually, the policy was established as a result of legal actions by a patient claiming sexual impropriety of some sort.
