How to choose a speciality

Hello!!! I'm an LPN and I currently work in the ED of a level 1 trauma center. I've been in the department for about 4 months. I've assisted in codes, triaged, splinted, thrown a bunch of IVs in patients, all the usual ED stuff. Working in the ED has been my dream...or so I thought. I assisted in a code today and I have yet to get that "high" that I thought I would. My question is does this mean emergency medicine isn't my specialty? How do you know what speciality is "the one?"

Specializes in Acute Care Pediatrics.

It's really just where you are comfortable and enjoy working. I mean, I love my job and I definitely have "A-HA, this is why I do this" moments, but I do not spend every shift in a dream like happy state. ;)

The right specialty is the one where you have to do the least amount of work for the most pay.

At least that's how I picked mine.

Give it more than 4 months, OP. Then count the highs and the lows.

Thanks for the great advice everyone
