Is this just for yourself? Or you and family?

That makes a big difference.

Yikes, that seems really expensive! My husband is in the military. $3 copay for each prescription, if not filled on base. Less than $40 for dental for the kids and me. Vision, one exam per year, not including the cost of glasses or contacts.

I'm part time, so I don't qualify for insurance. My DH is on disability, but thankfully he's eligible for his old company's health coverage--for the nominal cost of $500/month. ugh. But what are ya gonna do? We have to have it. We both have chronic illnesses and DS16 is on 3 seizure drugs himself. One uninsured trip to the ER could sink our ship.

my husband pays (family plan per month) $391 medical, $38.36 dental dhmo, $29.70 eye.. Drugs: $0 generic, %30 of total cost for name brand, %50 for non preferred. $20 Copay for PCP, $40 for specialty, %20 for lab/x-rays AFTER deductible. I do like not having to have a referral for specialty. I don't like my husband has to take Byetta and it costs about $130 a month. (not TOO bad considering what I have seen others pay for their meds)

I am faculty at a public ADN program in CA. It's a unionized position. I pay nothing for my medical, but pay 100% of the premium for my family (about $800 a month!) for an HMO. That does not include vision and dental. That is another $200 a month or so. Unionized public employee unions really vary and mine is expensive.

Last year my son was hospitalized for a spontaneous pneumo. That was about $60,000 in bills 100% covered. This year I found out in my yearly mammo that I had breast cancer. I am 44, healthy with no family history. The bills for that have already topped $100,000 almost fully covered except for a few $15 co-pays.

It seems so expensive when you are paying the premiums, but when things come up unexpectedly it seems like a bargain! My husband is self-employed. If we went through him it would be about $1,000 a month just for our medical and that would be a PPO with a $2500 deductible and 80/20 coverage.

Exactly!! My husband is Type 2 diabetic and has hypertension. If we had to pay for ALL his meds plus mine we would be broke just on that. We pay less on the premium then the drugs would cost each month. Plus, all my allergy shots 100% covered.

Hope you are doing well.

Thanks Ashkins--I am doing well. I have had outstanding medical care and was lucky to find it early. Get your mammos ladies!
