How long did you have to wait before landing 1st job after graduation?

It's been 4 months for me ,:stone, no job, passed NCLEX in Jan.

Specializes in ER, IICU, PCU, PACU, EMS.

I waited 12 months, but that was by my decision.

Specializes in CVICU.

I had a job lined up in October, graduated in December.

Not helpful. I know.

Don't give up. :-)

Still looking.....Graduated Dec. Passed NCLEX 3/26/08....

I had a job so I am taking my time looking...

Specializes in Government.

I took a job immediately after graduation as a GN. I then stayed on after I passed the NCLEX. Back then it was quite a haul from GN to RN time wise.

Why wait? To give yourself a breather? A few people in my class who wanted to take time off after school ended up never actually practicing. They just kept putting it off and then it seemed too big a hurdle somehow. I'm a big believer in getting on with it.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I think much depends on your area of the country. Where I live, all the grads that want to work, have jobs lined up prior to graduation. If you wait, you lose out - in my area.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Home Health.

I already had one lined up and worked as a GN, passed my NCLEX, and continued working as RN. I did wait a month between graduation and working though, just to have some time to relax after all the stress of school. The hospital was begging me to start immediately, but I stood my ground. I needed some time to "breath". I graduated in may and started working in june. Here, the hospital begs for new graduates. It depends on the area you live in. Some prefer to hire nurses with experience.

I took the boards back in July of '06- passed, but it took me 4 months to find a job...ended up starting work in Nov of '06 while all my other classmates started before me. Not sure how they landed jobs so quick..but where I live, there aren't many jobs for new grads..mostly experienced nurses.

Specializes in PCU, Home Health.

I had job lined up prior to Graduation.

BUT a girl- and I am saying girl because I feel much older than her- but she is a very capable nurse- I graduated with waited like a year. She even passed boards about the same time as me- she just had some personal issues to attend to. It was no big deal and I even trained her.

Specializes in CNA, Surgical, Pediatrics, SDS, ER.

I graduated May 06' did my preceptorship where I was offered a job passed boards in June 06' started working there July 06'.

I also had people in my class that were going to wait to start working for awhile but a lot of my class had jobs lined up prior to graduation.

Specializes in ER/ICU, CCL, EP.

I started a job within a month, but I have a friend who starts her first job tomorrow. She waited 4 months because she wanted the first job she interviewed for and she 'waited to see if they would call her back'. Around here it is also hard to get a GN job if you wait.

My state did not do the GN, you had to have your RN before you could work. I had a job lined up before I graduated. Once they saw online (b/c it was faster to see that way compared to waiting on my license to be mailed) I had passed and was assigned a license number, I started the next day.
