hospital dress codes??

Nurses General Nursing

Just wondering if your different work settings have certain rules on appearance?? ie. hair color, piercings, shoes....

In the hospital I work at the Nursing staff can wear whatever color uniform they want to. They prefer scrubs. White shoes are preferrable, but they may have some color in them, most of us wear athletic shoes. Hair must be neat, and they would prefer you wear it up if it's long, but they don't enforce that rule. Shorts can be worn if they are no more than 3 inches above the knee, and they must not be tight. They discourage excessive makeup, jewerly and perfume as many people with allergies can be bothered by perfume. JillR

During sever shortages everything about nursing changes more rapidly than at any other time and dress codes are one of the things that change the most. I am sure 5 years from now the white uniform will be dead as a door nail. This will be a good thing because the white coat effect has been scientifically documented many time. I have an emotional attachment to my old cap and white stocking but I realize they are ancient history.
