Hiring Mgr: We will let you know in 2 weeks

Nurses General Nursing

I semi-blew an interview, meaning I didn't completely make an ass out of myself, but I could have done better.

The hiring manager told me that I will hear from them no later than 2 weeks from the interview date *even if I did not get the job.

She further explained that she has a lot of interviews to do, which is why it will take that long.

I am assuming I did not get the job.

What are your experiences with "We'll call you in 2 weeks"?

Keep looking. I sure wouldn't wait that long. I've never been asked to wait that long. More typical is, "we'll call you in a day or two".

Sometimes it means, "We'll call you in 2 weeks."

Seriously. Just because you were not offered a job on the spot doesn't mean that you're automatically out of the running.

It may be that they do have to go through a lot of interviews, just as she told you. Or that they're planning to do the experience/reference/background check on applicants before they make any of them an offer. Or that they have to have the position posted/open for X days before they can fill it.

Or (alas), it could mean "Sorry, but No." Though if that's the case, it's highly unprofessional of them to be ghosting an applicant like that.

So wait a week, and if you haven't heard anything by then--and keep in mind that "hearing" from them could come in the form of a call, an e-mail, or an application status update--then you reach out with a call/e-mail to follow up. And if after that you still don't know one way or the other...then unfortunately, they took the chicken's way out.

Of course, you haven't put your job search on hold during all of this, right? Because you don't stop the job search until you get an official offer in hand.

Best of luck.

I had a job that I interviewed for recently that every step of the process took 2 weeks. Phone interview with HR was done and went well. 2 weeks later got called for an interview with Nurse Manager and another RN. Took 2 weeks to schedule that. 2 weeks later, got called for a phone/Skype interview with the Chief of the Department. Less than 2 weeks after that, I had another job offer and when I tried to follow-up with this position (because the last I'd heard, I was one of the last 2 candidates), they didn't answer me fast enough so I went ahead and accepted the other job (which is the job I was leaning towards anyway).

I find that large hospital systems move at a snail's pace compared to some other employers. The last time I was job searching 3 years ago, I had 3 offers in 2 weeks but none of those offers were from large hospital systems, which is all I applied for this time.

In my experience I've never had an employer call me back just to tell me I didn't get the job. I did however once get a "thank you for applying but you were not selected" email. Unless this is your super dream job you shouldn't stress over it. Apply for more jobs. Don't put all your hope into one interview.

On the flip side: When I was job seeking as a new grad I had an employer call me back an entire month after the interview asking if I was still interested and basically giving me a job offer. I guess the old "we have a lot of interviews" really did apply there

"I semi-blew an interview, meaning I didn't completely make an ass out of myself, but I could have done better"

Semi- bad, is not so bad. I had an interview , where I was so bad, I laughed at myself all the way home. Call you in 2 weeks .. means nothing. Most employers will let you know in their own sweet time, some never either way. How long has it been?

Re: how long has it been?

This interview in particular was yesterday.

I've been going on at least one interview per week for more than the past month, so I am starting to get fed up with these HR people's antics. Oh well I'll keep applying.

It once took an employer four months to get me working, and that was after the job offer. I should have gone elsewhere. I would continue the job search while you wait out the two weeks.

My current job, they sought me out, "we have the perfect job for you"

& they did, DON Administrator, we have heard so much about you, glad you will be helping us.

I didn't have an interview, just filled out papers, did the UDS.

It did help I was friends with most of the administrative nurses.....

Unfortunately, more than likely, they are not going to offer you the position. Any job offer I have ever gotten has fallen within the same week of the interview. Any longer than that, and I find myself to be a recipient of a "We've decided to pursue other applicants who more closely meet the needs of our department," email.

Get used to HR "antics" they follow the hiring managers direction, in their own sweet time. They are your friend... until you get hired.

This is not true across the board. Most of my job offers have come the week following my interview after references have been checked. And I've been a nurse for 11 years and have had 5 nursing jobs.
