i'm going to be applying for a community college based nursing program in a little less than a year. i'm just wondering what is the best material to use for the hesi entrance exam?

Specializes in med/surg, snf, some psych.

i am going to bridge from LVN-RN. i recently took the HESI pre-entrance exam for the RN program. i passed first try, but you do need to study a bit.

you need to know:

-anatomy and physiology

-Histology

-Mitosis and Meiosis

-Skin (integumentary system)

-Skeletal system

-Muscular system

-nervous system

-Endocrine system

-Circulatory system

-Respiratory system

-Digestive system (GI)

-Urinary system

-For the A&P know the basic function of each system...learn know the anatomical structure and placement of organs and systems.

-Must Know: MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY!!!!!!!! -and what they mean!!!

-Know your english (reading, writing, comprehension, vocabulary)-very important!!! every thing that has to do with english (from grammar to spelling).

Know your MATH..... EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!!

-Basic addition and subtraction

-Basic multiplication

-Basic division

-Addition and subtraction of decimals

-multiplication of decimals

-division of decimals

-basic fraction vocabulary(numerator, denominator)

-addition of fractions

-additin of mixed numbers

-subtractions of fractions

-borrowwing from whole numbers

-multiplication of fractions

-division of fractions

-changing fractions to decimals & decimals to fractions

-ratio & proportions

-percentages

study and you'll be fine. no joke, i took this test along with 7 other LVN's and i'm the only one that passed. everything i mentioned above, will show up on the test. the only reason some people don't pass, is because they don't study. i'm not going to lie, i thought, "since it is a pre-entrance exam, it should be easy, right?" no man, it was pretty challenging, some Q's looked like they could be on the nclex( the A&P Q's). the test should take about 4 hours. don't rush, it's critical that you pass, or else you have to take it again.

go online and search for other HESI study resouces.

Good luck, just study, use common sense, some critical thinking, and you will PASS.

Thanks for your reply:-)

I'mnot sure if you are trying to get into a bridge program or ADN program but when I took the entrance HESI...a while back...it wasn't difficult at all. If you took your pre reqs and know your BASIC math, you should be fine. I think maybe the hardest part might be if you're not confidant on your A&P...review it. I don't remember there being anything in great detail though. Good luck on your journey!

I was searching for information about what to expect on the HESI entrance test because this is the first year the school to which I have applied will use this test. hospitaljunki, you provided very helpful information.

Does anyone have any comments on the reading section? I read some other threads that made mention of HESI A2. Are these two different tests or is A2 a separate section of the HESI used for another program?

Thanks
