I'm seeking some advice from all of you experienced nurses out there (coming from a student nurse still in pre-reqs!). I've had a headache for about two days. I also have a cold, but now I'm wondering if the headache is a separate issue. It got REALLY bad today around 2:30... as in the worst headache I have ever had. I took some Advil w/no relief. I slept for about 2 hours and it was gone, but gradually came back and is now as bad as it was earlier. I took some Tylenol earlier in the evening and it hasn't helped at all. It is so bad I have been crying on and off all day. It is only on the right side of my head. Is this a "normal" headache? Should I try to make a dr.'s appt tomorrow?

I second that advice....no one should have to been in pain like that. Get your self checked tonight!! And keep us updated, please.
Chances are it is probably a migraine or a sinus infection/headache. But if you are hurting that bad, why would you want to suffer for another 8-10 hours? I say if your boyfriend is willing to drive you to the hospital of your choice tonight, then take him up on it. If your head hurts so bad that you are crying then you probably need examined. Plus you can get something stronger for your headache and hopefully get some relief. Good luck.
Yeah...let us know ok?
Thanks for all of the quick responses! We actually live 3 hours apart, so I would have to drive myself. Am currently in the process of deciding...
Is it smart to drive with that bad of a headache?? I think you should go closer, or get somebody to take you.

Ditto! Your parents, or a sister or brother maybe? Because if you do drive yourself the ER won't give you anything that might impair your driving which in that case it probably wouldn't be worth the trip.... Seriously though you really ought to have someone else go with you....

Ask a friend, relative or even a neighbour to drive you to the better hospital, or request an ambulance transport to the local hospital and then request a transfer. ADVOCATE for yourself.
Seriously, the first time I ever went to the ER for a headache, it turned out that I actually was a having a stroke, albeit a small one, at age 26. I was very, very lucky. Even if it's not that serious, you need to be seen if the pain is so bad you're crying.

Go to the big ER and get checked, it's most likely a bad sinus infection. I had one so bad, that it seriously hurt the OUTSIDE of my head to lie on a pillow. Some pain meds and serious p.o antibiotics and within a day or so I felt like a new girl.
Get someone to go NOW and take you!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let us know what happened when you feel better, okay????
