Grumpy at change of shift (11-7)

Hey I know this is going to sound really silly, but here goes. I'm fine all shift but when day shift comes in, all bright eyed and bushy tailed - it gets to me. All I want to do is give report and run out the door. No time to dilly dally because I just want to go home. I turn into grumpy cat. I've never been like this while working 3-11. Does anyone else experience this phenomenon?

I'm the exact opposite. I am day shift and NOT bright eyed and bushy tailed at 6:30 am. Sorry. But I am when my shift is over buddy. I am excited I've gotten another 12 hrs behind me and woohoo I am going home!! Yeaaaa!!!

Yep....when I worked nights I felt resentful when the perky chatty day crew came in. Unreasonable resentment I know but it was what it was.:sorry:

I get like that. More with new grads than experienced nurses.

When I tell you about the rapid response patient I got then intubated, dropped every tube and line known to earth and started gtts then went for a stat CT. Then the other patient had an acute mental status change, got combative and had to be restrained due to nearly destroying the IV pump. I ate a few pieces of candy to replenish glucose, thank heaven for coffee and still have a full bladder.

Then the sweet, wide eyed and bushy tailed new grad asks me which one is the night bath. I start twitching.

Patient hygiene is very high on my nursing care but keeping them alive and stable trumps

I've always noticed the difference between those working nocs, and therefore about to get off versus those who arrive bright eyed and bushy tailed to start the day.

I can pretty much tell who is going home and who is coming on by the way they look!

When I work nocs, I always feel like a superhero for having stayed awake the whole time! I might be moving slow, but I'm done!

Wasn't that an Ed Asner line on the old "Mary Tyler More Show"?

Or Louie DiPalma on "Taxi"? :roflmao:

You've got it - Ed Asner. I was wondering if anyone else would remember that.

lol, I think it was Mr. Grant (Ed Asner).....he said to Mary, "You're spunky. I hate spunk!" She was a very perky girl, too!

I think you may be right - it's been years since I've watched that.

Yes, I don't like it when the chatty catty loud and often dramatic day shift comes on, shift change is the part I dread the most! Well some staff are awesome and easy to give report to but others just ghhrrrrrr....I love my nocs coworkers they are awesome! Nocs is the best :)

I have the opposite issue. My day shift relief comes in looking like a troll that is actively eating a lemon the entire time I'm giving report.
