Going back to work after a couple years

Can anyone tell me how hard it is to get back into working as a nurse after taking a couple years off? I am currently a stay at home mom. I have 4 children and I have just had 2 in 17 months time. I want to go back to work in the next 6 months or so but I'm scared. I have only been a nurse for 3.5 years, and the most experience I have is at a nursing home. I would like to work a med-surg floor when I go back, but I am petrified of not being able to function. I feel so far away from school and not having much experience, I am afraid I would be worthless on the med-surg floor. Have I ruined my chances of having a successful nursing career because of having a family and staying home for a year? Is there any encouragement out there?
