Frustrated beyond belief!

I have applied 3 different times with a hospital run Hospice. I have volunteered for 6 months, finally decided I was ready to go for it, so I applied for a full time RN position, and a PRN LPN position. Then went and introduced myself to human resources, and handed a resume and cover letter to them. Then in a week I went and introduced myself to the manager of Hospice and she seemed very interested in hiring me, and then got a PRN position approved (which is what I wanted PRN). I mailed the manager my resume and cover letter, called a few days later and she confirmed that she did get my resume and cover letter.

More days go by (I know they are real busy trying to fill the fulltime RN position so its taking several weeks) I phoned her a couple of days ago and she was in a meeting, so she called me back stating that she didn't have my application anywhere. I applied online 3 different times!!!! And I got an email saying they got my application.

So why does human resources not forward my application to her??? I've never had anything bad anywhere, never called in sick a day in my life! Never even been reprimanded before.

What is going on? Do they not like me because I haven't been in the hospital working for 20 months? Its not even been 2 years for Pete's sake! Are they holding this against me? I have been working as a telephone triage nurse for 20 months.

I'm so fed up with Human Resources! A month ago, the HR lady even told me she had forwarded my resume to the manager. So she lied? I drove 50 miles yesterday to apply in person so they'd FOR SURE have my application, but the receptionist said they have my application, as I was standing there she was looking it up in the computer.

Maybe God doesn't want me to be a Hospice nurse. After volunteering, and after working in med surg 10 years, and then in ICU 10 years, and my mom being a Hospice patient I was certain that this is my calling. Ughhh. You work so hard all your life and get no where!

U poor thing, so true, unfortunately this has happened to me also.

I busted my gut also studying & working any c****y job I could get, did a 6 week clinical with shiftwork with no pay, studied every night, had no life, gave up a relationship to get my degree (which I regret now though we are good friends), and it has not been worth it.

I too take a lot of time & effort with applications, and sent these off to a lot of agencies or for jobs, & they don't even have the courtesy to acknowledge it. One agency I applied to, I too sent in about 10-15 pages of documents, (all photocopied), sent it by registered post, and the manager didn't contact me at all. I kept leaving message after message, & when I rang one day, she said she couldn't find the application! I said you could have at least told me! But when I spoke to the receptionist, she told me it had arrived.

I think the manager has 'deliberately' lost your application, I think that's what happened to me for some strange reason. She is playing you big time.

It makes me so very angry that we are professional people and get treated like we're nothing. A doctor or surgeon certainly would not be treated in this shabby manner.

And if I'd driven 50 miles, I would be demanding to see the manager, not just talking to the receptionist and I would make sure she took my application anyway just so I knew they had it.

Utterly ridiculous, go somewhere else & maybe try to forget about them, or try nursing agencies (some of them though aren't much better).

Hello. Good for you that you want to do hospice nursing. When you "drove fifty miles yesterday to apply in person...and the receptionist said thay have your application on the computer...", did you kindly ask for a meeting with the manager or a staff member in human resources while you were there? If you professionally give them one more chance to meet with you and hire you and they still give you the "run around", could it be that they are seeking to hire a nurse with more hospice experience? Even though you say you have twenty years of nursing work experience, some employers are picky about specific experience in their specialty. Give it another try and then if it does not work out, move on. Best wishes!

This is so unprofessional. Op, you are not to blame.

I bet somebody has a VIP/friend in mind for the job. They took your information only to appear to be considering other applicants. Somebody over at that place already knows who they want for the position, and as the world works, the person that will get the job is a complete incompetent mess.

have been on the receiving end of a charade like that and never again, cut your losses and apply elsewhere

Well, I think I'd contact the hiring person once more. Tell her that the receptionist said they have your app. Ask her to tell you if there is any fiurther information she (the hiring person) can tell you or needs from you to make the decision to hire you or not.

Remind her that she told you she did have receipt of your resume and cover letter on _______whatever the date was. Tell her you know how busy she must be and how much you really do want to work for her because you are certain you will be a great asset to her, etc.

If this doesn't get quick and positive results, put this place behind you and move on to a different hospice.

Do NOT openly get angry or accusatory with anyone. That will never help you. Just move on.

Sorry you have had this experience, but such is life. I think many of us have been there.

That's what I was thinking too, yesterday when I visited HR, I tried to be as friendly and pleasant as a person can be.

If they would at least tell me what they didn't like about my application and resume, I'd feel better. I wish I knew why they wouldn't forward it to the Hospice manager.

I know a lot of times they hire within too. This is not the hospital that I worked at for 20 years, so maybe that's why they don't like me. My husband says I should not worry about it, maybe it just takes time.

There is one other Hospice agency in my area that I could try if this one doesn't work out.

No, I don't have a crystal ball but why stress out about things you obviously don't have any control over. Stress only causes one to become ill and does nothing to change someone's situation. If anything stress will cause one's situation just to become worst. Everything in your life won't go your way this is obvious. Just take life as it comes and when life throws lemons at you make lemonade, when able. In all honesty, I am apart of more than one forum and I find nurses to be emotional based, which sometimes causes them to be irrational. Anyhow, this has been my experience the short time I have been on these boards. You can't even have a positive outlook on this board without being attacked or someone making a sarcastic comment. Anyhow, I think she will end up with the job since she seems as if she is being, so proactive in gaining this employment. If she does not, she will gain full filling employment somewhere else and life will go on. Some of you crack up me up with the way you view life.

I will end this post mulan with this question! Do you have a crystal ball, since you seem to know the outcome of this situation, lol. Otherwise, why would you ask if I had a crystal ball.

It sounds like a very disorganized office. Are you sure you want to work for a company if they treat you like this? Surely there are other hospice companies that you could look into if this current one keeps giving you the run around, very unprofessional. I know you have volunteered but maybe asking for a job shadow also might be a wise idea.

That sounds almost verbatim what my husband said to me! I'm trying to be positive, just don't want to get my hopes up too much. I know a lot of times its who ya know and who ya blow. I'm crossing my fingers though.
