What general discussion topic on allnurses do you get the most annoyed at?

For example: My pet-peeve is the "I hate working the floor. What cushy nursing jobs are there that do not require any real work?"

How would you like to respond to these topics?

For example: I would like to respond "Quit being lazy, put your time in, and develop into a stronger nurse before venturing out."

Without being specific enough to identify anyone, please contribute with your thoughts about topics that annoy you the most.

Please do not insult, demean, or disparage anyone. After all- at allnurses we are allfriends.

Need to interview a nurse for school

So true.

Should I go to nursing school and/ or I'm 15 and have my academic and working career planned out up through the doctoral level, please encourage me by gazing into your crystal ball and/or should I go $80,000 into debt to attend a school that is only willing to admit me because I am willing to go $80,000 into debt.

Should I become a nurse?

No.

It's my dreeeeeaam to be a nurse.

Nursing isn't a bad profession (though it really tries hard at that sometimes), but not worthy of a ddreeeaaam. Set your sights a little higher if you're dreamin'

Will I loose my license if I forgot to give a Colace, change a dressing, quit right before my shift, have 50 patients in LTC?

No, but you should lose it for being so obtuse.

Here are some general themes that drive me crazy:

1. Vaccines are poison forced on us by the government and big pharma!

2. My employer's requiring me to get the flu shot! How awful is that?

3. I am a mean-spirited old lady who thinks nurses should eat their young. Who's with me?

4. Obamacare is the worst thing that ever happened to the U.S. populace! Who's with me?

These are all really good!

Nice posts

Ooh!!!

I'll add :

The "B" word or "negativity" being slung about when there is a difference of opinion-it's like grinding teeth! UGH!!!

It's the Internet folks...not the country club's knitting circle (no disrespect intended).

Also when will people help me get this wonderful gift of hearing TONE in the Internet? How can someone be "negative" especially in a post that doesn't have those particular words like stupidity, awful, and like ACTUAL "negative" TOS violating and inflammatory words in it???

I mean, people will say something educated and logical that is dissenting, then there is a posting about lateral violence, in response to their post, or "your being negative", and bordering on flouncing occurs.

Really, I want to know; I'm not trying to be obtuse-I just want to understand.

I have been a nurse for 32 years!”

Being a nurse for 32 years does not quantify you as a good nurse or an all knowing nurse. It simply means you are a nurse with 32 years of experience.

Help I need help with this dosage calculation problem”

I go to read the student's post only to find the student has not even attempted the problem.

Should I quite nursing school/nursing?”

If you questioning whether or not you have what it takes to make it through a nursing program, cut your losses now. It does not make you a loser- in fact, it demonstrates your ability to rationalize and make good decisions. If you're not happy as a nurse, find a different specialty of facility. If after having changed facilities/positions four times in the last two years…well some self-evaluation is needed. Again, it does not make you a bad person.

Can I get into nursing school with a 1.08 GPA?”

All nursing programs are different. Perhaps a for-profit school would be your best bet as most of them greatly lower their entrance requirements. Although I will say, you have to be a smart person to be a nurse.

When I am finished with my ASN, I will finish my BSN then my PhD or DNP”

It's great to have goals. However, since you're in an ASN program, you have yet to study nursing theory or have taken a nursing research course. I hope you're passionate about research, evidence-based practice, and stats. If not, rethink your educational goals.

Why didn't you go to medical school?”

Because I changed careers at 34 years of age. If I chose medical school, I would have needed to take 3 years of the required science courses, 4 years of medical school, 2 years of general residency, and 4 years of fellowship. That would put me at 107 years old. I don't think I would get a return on investment. Besides, the medical model did not interest me, which is also why I do not want to become a Physician Assistant.

The computer shut down after ___ questions. Did I pass?

Did I get the good pop-up?

Please answer these 10 questions for an interview, but I don't have time to look for a nurse. The more detail the better. Yes, I see there are 3 other new requests for interviews, so why won't you mean nurses answer my questions. Nurses are supposed to help people.

What can you tell me about (insert subject). I didn't understand in class.

Complete stranger, should I ________ or should I ________ with my life?

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

"I'm pregnant and I don't think I should have to do any lifting, take care of any patients in isolation or accompany a patient to CT. How come my coworkers are being such mean bullies and not accommodating my requests?"

"It's not worth my life to drive to work in bad weather."

"I didn't go to school to wipe butts."

"Nursing is a horrible job, everyone is mean and I hate it. It's only my second day -- is it too soon to switch jobs? By the way, this is the fifth job I've had since I graduated four months ago."

There are two that get to me.

The first is actually the contrast between two common threads with contradictory claims.."We're worked like dogs and treated like peasants." Followed by a thread.."I work with lazy nurses who are always on their phones texting or playing Candy Crush."

The other are the ones complaining about so many entitled patients and their families that remind me of other boards I've belong to with the common, "PEOPLE SUCK!" I work in healthcare too, I see the same folks immediately following discharge. There are a few that are impossible but most are people doing the best they can even if it's not up to my personal standards, and are very grateful for our care. I gotta believe based on my experience over the course of many years that perspective is part of it. I see folks in a crisis that are scared, angry, anxious, out of control..
