East Coast Going from 12 to Eight hour shifts?

Someone at my work mentioned that the hospitals in the east are trashing the twelve hour shift in favor of 8 hour shifts. Is this really the case, east coasters?

Not in my area... allthough my hospital does still have a few nurses who work 8 hour shifts.

I'm in Ohio and all the hospitals here are going TO twelves. Ugh. I'd love them in several years when my kids are older but not now. I'm a single mom to three VERY busy, involved kids and 12's are nearly impossible for me.

Both my hospitals still do both. I don't see how the entire East Coast could agree on anything, lol.

My hospital does 12s. I would ask your friend where she found that information.

Not in my area either. My hospital does both, but there are some around here that do all 12s.

I haven't seen it easier. I hear it is easier to staff 12 hour shifts.

my floor in Boston went from all 12's to all 8's because it was easier to schedule people. We all hated it.

Were still 12s and I don't see it changing either.

12s here as well...although there are a few people that work 8s. They let me work a couple week of 8s when I first went back to work (I am eternally grateful!!) but I was on orientation to the unit and my preceptor stayed for 12.

13 hour shifts here! Some 8 hour shift in hospital, but mostly 13s.

Almost every hospital in the area does 13, most nurses work other jobs....would be too hard with 8 hour shifts.
