Nurses in my hospital work the typical 3 12 hour shifts, do they get paid for 40 hours or 36 hours?

Most places would only pay for 36 hours, but will consider those folks full time in regards to benefits. At least, that's how it is where I am.

Yup get paid for hours worked but you are counted as FT

When I worked "Baylor Nights," I worked 36- and got paid for 40. But, it was Thur, Fri, and Sat!! (or Fri-Sat-Sun). I have also done ER Weekends 2 x 16 Hr and got paid for 40.

i totally agree with the previous poster, there are some facilities that still refer it as the baylor-system which requires the nurse to work fri, sat, and sun 12hr. shifts. no one can deny, that this schedule works for some nurses, because it offers them more time during the week with their families.

I don't think any of us can say how YOUR hospital pays these nurses. The majority of hospitals these days would pay someone who works 36 hrs/week for 36 hrs/week.

At my hospital we get paid as if it were 40 hours...we actually make slightly more money the last 4 hours of a shift which evens it out as if we were working 40 instead of 36.

We are scheduled 3 12s, but an hour is automatically deducted from each day for lunch. Therefore 33 hrs.

Seventy five percent of the time nurses don't get lunches. It is our responsibility to fill out a form, (meal exclusion) explain why, and then get the supervisor to sign agreement.
