I am watching the news and they are talking about there being a drug shortage with lot of drugs . how can this happen ? have any of you not been able to get or find drugs ?

It's been on the news. Chemo and cardiac drugs are in short supply. It was the lead story this evening on World News Tonight.

I guess the industry is gonna jack up the prices!

Some of the drugs are generic, so it's no longer profitable for companies to make them. Some of the drugs were made overseas and had quality control issues.

We talked about this in a meeting today. Apparently some anesthesia drugs also are in short supply and they are having to decide who needs what more.

We had a pharmacist come to our staff meeting today to ask any questions because they are trying to phase out Range doses as well. (not sure if this is nationally or with our health systems only) but the other day I had a kiddo go into an allergic reaction and went to pull out the epi and all we had was the adult jet. We use to have an Epi Pen Jr but not now. Apparently they are phasing them out. We made a fuss about this. The only dose the Pyxsis supplied our floor (Peds floor) was the 0.3mg dose and there is no way to draw out what you need. So for now they sent us up the ampule to use but when you have a kid going into anaphylactic shock every second counts.

I work in oncology, and we have had a shortage of drugs for over a year now. Believe it or not, one of the local hospitals is out of DECADRON. I can think of four or five chemo drugs that have been in short supply over the last year which we had to substitute and alternative drug for.

I work in oncology, and we have had a shortage of drugs for over a year now. Believe it or not, one of the local hospitals is out of DECADRON. I can think of four or five chemo drugs that have been in short supply over the last year which we had to substitute and alternative drug for.

My boss runs 3 units and one of them is Oncology and that is what she was saying too. She said it's really effected that unit.
