Does your employer recognize "Nurse's Day"?

Congratulations to all those "old" nurses, new nurses and nurses2b on Nurse's Day.

Does your employer do anything special to recognize this day?

Specializes in Med-Surg, Long Term Care.

they brought in a scrubs/uniform vendor on monday to offer discounts to staff; they're holding raffles on a few days-- i don't know what the prizes are; there's a hoagie day-- hoagies, chips, soda for all shifts; a "special dessert" was handed out in the office where paychecks are picked up yesterday, and i think i read about another day where there'd be "healthy snacks" (forget "healthy"-- give us chocolate!!! :D)

i worked tuesday and wednesday and saw no evidence of nurse's week, forgot to go in and get my paycheck yesterday , and i don't know whether anything's planned when i work this weekend. but i don't base my worth on whether i'm recognized during nurses' week. if i get a free hoagie or prize, that'll be nice, but i don't give it much thought otherwise.

my aunt lori is the only one of my family or friends who sends me a lovely nurses' week card every year, and her loving words and compliments are very appreciated.

happy nurses' week! :balloons:

Specializes in Specializes in L/D, newborn, GYN, LTC, Dialysis.

WE got treated REALLLLY well. Got a $15 Gift Cert for Barnes and Noble. I am very happy, considering how cheesy some places can get (and have been in the past where I am). Another thing I love is the gender-neutrality of this gift. MEN or WOMEN can use this one! I am more than pleased, can u tell?????

Specializes in Psych, Med/Surg, Home Health, Oncology.

We've had goodies all week; We had a nice "Blessing of the Hands" Ceremony Monday; Since this was on the day shift, the Chaplin came around to all the floors during the nite; It was a short non-denominational blessing!

Tuesday we had Hand massages--nice!

Wednesday was a free meal and gifts; a pen from the Hospital; and a calculator from the Doctors.

There was something today, but I can't remember what;

Friday, our Unit Council is giving a Tea.

Not a bad week;

Specializes in HIV/AIDS, Dementia, Psych.

:crying2: Nobody loves meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

All this talk of gifts and appreciation is making me feel very underappreciated!! :chuckle

Specializes in GI,Rehab, Ortho/Neuro.

don't feel bad, ali.... we got a gift certificate in the mail last moth as our nurse's week gift. i would have really liked something for all nursing personel- but i don't think they included cnas, pcas, or techs in the mailing.

this week they had the nursing awards and next week they have the hospital service awards dinner and talent show. i think i will be creating my own celebration. at home.

it is teachers week also. my niece has to take something every day for her teacher. i asked one year if anyone did anything for the school nurse. "no, why should i?" the fact that there are three nurses in her family escapes her.

happy nurses' week

When is Nursing Day?

Where I work - a nursing home - we are having nursing home week. Maybe once upon a time they called it nurse's week, I don't know.

We're starting it next Monday.

But it's no longer a celebration of the nursing staff. The kitchen staff, the housecleaning staff, the maintenance staff, the office staff are all celebrated too.

Congratulations to all those "old" nurses, new nurses and nurses2b on Nurse's Day.

Aw, poor thing. We appreciate you!! Where are you moving to?

Wow, that sounds bad- I'm not stalking you, I promise, I just saw somewhere else you said you're moving south.. Maybe I'm way off. Come to Texas! We have to no distinction between seasons and in the summer you can LITERALLY fry an egg on the ground. HAHA

I have a great employer, however l'm certain my employer has never heard of such thing as "nurses day". Is only 3 nurses where l work and we havn't given it a thought either.

There is no celebration at our hospital, because then they "would have to do something special for all other positions" meaning dietary, housekeeping, xray, lab techs, etc. Be grateful if your facility supports you by recognizing it. (It was picked because it is Florence Nightengale's birthday, right?)

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

That really bites. I can't imagine working somewhere as a nurse where it isn't even acknowledged. That's rude.

Specializes in ICU, CM, Geriatrics, Management.

We're celebrating Nurses' Week, not just the day!

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

Every day my home floor has something going on. A big banquet of food (so much for the diets that the majority were on), prizes for everyone (so far i've won a nursing pin, tshirt, travel mug, a potted fern and a GC for a local spa). I get to participate since i'm a extern.

The aides and orderlies are invited, since our NM believes that EVERYONE is valuable, and deserves recognition.
