did i screw my self out of this job?

  1. Hi.
i thought had gotten one job a big hospital. And it didnt workout in the end, but in the mean time i had had an interview at a smaller community hospital. I like its a lot but money was not as good an it was a 7p for 7a. I called them and let them know that i was accepting another job offer because i didnt want to waste there time! But as it turns out i really regrited it, and never got the orginal job. So i sent them an email asking to finish the interview and meet with there nursing director. I have landed that interview and i am really excited. I have really started to realize that its an awesome job. They really do treat there nurse well and its a floor i would love to work on! But do think i even have a shot? the hr women said there were other candidstes but was excited to see me again? was that a hint? i know i did well on the interview. Any adv ..cause i think i really want this job=(

I think if they wouldn't consider you they wouldn't have agreed to the interview. So I'd say your chances are just fine. Good luck!

Thanks! i am so excited, and i feel like now this is how its supposte to be. I was not excited at all about that bigger hospital. It was on a floor i didnt want and it was totally about the money. Now i have my priorites sorted out and see that this is the job i want! but not sure how to answer them on why i took the other offer the first time? should i just be honest?

I would be honest. I don't think they would interview you if they didn't want you. Why waste the time?

I'll be going on an interview shorty. What kinds of interview question did they ask you. Cause I'm very poor at interviews and very nervous and I start to stutter. Any other ideas of interview questions that I should expect. Congratulations on your new job.

Well when I job hunted right out of school I found it was easy enough to land an interview. Seemed they'd interview anyone with a pulse. So the fact that they called one up for an interview meant very little.

I would say times are different now, and they are not interviewing nearly as many prospects for any given opening. The job openings are fewer, and they're being very picky. I wonder if they're even giving sign-on bonuses to new nurses nowadays like they used to.

What honesty I think it will go a long way for you. I have so much respect for people like you because sometimes people will take a position-work less than 2 weeks then move to a different position that they had applied for during the same time when they were job hunting. I don't judge them either but it puts everyone in a bind. Good Luck.

just wanted to tell you to google nursing interview questions! This is what i did this way i would have a convo with myself so i was ready. And at the bigger hospital it was like she had read what i had and asked me word for word. Not saying that would happen to you but it gives you an idea of what to expect=) gl!!!!!!!

    Hi,

If they had ruled you out they would not have booked the interview. We all make mistakes...in fact, that is the biggest problem with nursing...it is a job that has as a standard perfection. Unfortunatley, alas, we are but human. I don't know how much experience you have but I'll share this and perhaps it will benefit you. As a brand new graduate I thought long and hard about what I wanted to achieve with my first nursing position and decided on a small (97 bed), rural hospital. I knew that a small facility would not have all of the specialized departments and a limited ancillary staff so while it would be more challenging it would provide me with the best real world nursing education. Well, I could not have been more right...when you don't have all the ancillary staff then you have to learn to do it all...RT, PT, OT, Case management. I'll be honest, it was pretty grueling in the beginning but I was blessed to be one of the two new nurses in the hospital. I went to med-surg and she went to OB, so we both got exactly what we wanted. We were surrounded by nurses with 5,10,15,20 and more years of experience. They didn't coddle us but we always knew that they had our backs. I spent 7 1/2 years at that facility until I felt that I had learned all I could and then took it on the road. Since then I have worked at medium sized facilities and at large teaching hospitals. They have all been different but once I got into facilities that had all the specialilzed units I discovered that my all around education made me a lot more flexible and in greater demand than those who had not received this benefit. Everyone is different and only you can choose what works for you but I will forever be grateful for the path I took. All The Best, kwkrnc
