When starting at a new place, go out of your way to introduce yourself to your assistants, and find out what their usual duties are. Things vary a little from place to place. This avoids misunderstandings if you know at the beginning of the shift that CNA's will do vital signs, pass trays and feed patients.
CNA's get busy, so be prepared to do things for yourself. It is hard to delegate when there is no person in sight to delegate to.

Follow your states BON rules for delegation. I have had a lot of unlicensed personnel try to get me to let them perform procedures that they are not allowed to do per BON rules.
