~~When tomorrow starts without me, and I'm not there to see; If the sun

should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me; I wish so much

you would not cry the way you did today, while thinking of the many things

we did not get to say.

I know how much you love me, as much as I love you, and each time that you

think of me, I know you'll miss me, too. But when tomorrow starts without

me, please try and understand, that an angel came and got me and took me by

the hand. He said my place was ready, in heaven far above, and that I'd

leave behind me all those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away, a tear feel from my eye, for all my life I'd

always thought that I did not want to die. I had so much to live for, so

much yet to do, It seemed so much impossible that I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad, I thought of

all the love we shared, and all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday, just even for awhile, I'd say goodbye and kiss

you and maybe see you smile. But then I fully realised that this could

never be, for emptiness and memories will take the place of me,

And when I thought of worldly things, I might miss come tomorrow, I thought

of you, and when I did, my heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven's gates I felt SO MUCH at home, When God

looked down and smiled at me, from His great throne. He said "This is

eternity, and all that I promised you"

Today for life on earth has passed but here it starts anew, I promise no

tomorrow, but today will always last, and since each day's the same way

there's no longing for the past.

You have been so faithful, so trusting and so true. Thought there were

times you did some things that you knew you should not do. But you have

been forgiven, and now at last you are free. So won't you take My hand,

and share my life with Me?

So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we are far apart, for

everytime you think of me, I'm right here in your heart.~~~

That is beautiful

when somebody dies, a cloud turns into an angel and flies up to tell god to put another flower on a pillow. a bird gives the message back to the world, and sings a silent prayer that makes the rain cry. people disappear, but they never really go away.

the spirits up there put the sun to bed, wake up the grass, and spin the earth in dizzy circles. sometimes you can see them dancing in a cloud during the daytime, when they're supposed to be sleeping. they paint the rainbows and also the sunsets and make waves splash and tug at the tide. they toss shooting stars and listen to wishes.

and when they sing windsongs, they whisper to us

"don't miss me too much. the view is nice

and i'm doing just fine."

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

to realnursealso/lpn:

just wanted to share a poem by henry van dyke that hospice uses in their literature- it helped me with my dad's death, and anytime i feel wrung out that he is gone forever, i re-read this and it lets me breathe a little easier. nothing takes the pain away - it's just one day at a time and learning to cope with something so natural and inevitable yet so utterly devastating and unacceptable.

i like the spiritual but non-religious aspect of this poem - it conjures up cyclical nature imagery which i always find so comforting when life is confounding me.....my heart goes out to you and your family ---:redpinkhe

gone from my sight

i am standing upon the seashore.

a ship, at my side, spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts

for the blue ocean.

she is an object of beauty and strength.

i stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck

of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

then, someone at my side says, "there, she is gone"

gone where?

gone from my sight. that is all.

she is just as large in mast, hull and spar as she was when she left my side.

and, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

her diminished size is in me -- not in her.

and, just at the moment when someone says, "there, she is gone,"

there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices

ready to take up the glad shout, "here she comes!"

and that is dying...

That was beautiful, pagandeva2000.

Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers at this terrible time. This sounds corny, but I always loved this quote from Little House on the Prairie:

"Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all."

I was always touched by this sentiment. I believe we all want our family and friends to be okay when we pass on. I would much prefer to be remembered through funny stories and giggles and that's probably true for most of us.

Sending hugs your way.

I have always liked the sentiment of this poem, not sure who the author was.

I AM NOT THERE

Do not stand at my grave and weep;

I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn's rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry;

I am not there, I did not die.

Thoughts and sympathy to you in your time of grief.

:ilyc:How do I say thank you. You have all really touched my heart. Today has been just as hard as yesterday. But I just logged into All Nurses, and I see you all have said such wonderful things. I am speechless that all of you would care about me, a stranger behind:typing a computer screen. I don't post often, anymore, I have been coming to this website since 2000. There weren't as many members then. I used to chat with Brian and others in the chatroom. But I guess now I am more of a lurker. I applaud you all when you pass your boards, I feel bad for you all when you are having a trying time at work, or with your families. I still remember what it was like to be a new nurse and be unsure. From now on I will try to make more posts, so I can be there for you all, the way you were all there for me. God Bless all of you, and may the angels sleep on your pillows tonight. And here is a big hug from Colleen to all of you!
