Decisions to make regarding 2 job offers

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello,

I graduated 2 1/2 month ago as an LPN. I have been having a really hard time just getting interviews due to the fact that i am a new graduate. So after all this time i get an interview with a very large public institution which is a floating LPN position and tasks can vary daily from home visits to nursing homes to rehab centers...it's a great opportunity work for this establishment and it's hard to get in....the pay is according to government pay scale, and travel to and from is about 25 minute highway drive each way...but of course it's a floating nurse so it changes...They also guarantee me 8 shifts a month min but of course the more available to you, the more they will call for you to work...

The second position is of a beautiful private retirement/nursing home minutes away form my house..i can bike there in the summer...the pay is not great about 2-3$/hour less then the other job but i would be able to get the experience i need. This one is on call position but the more you are available and more hours you work the better chance you have to become full time perm position.

The public position i was so excited about and really wanted to get that job. Once they started calling my references i was sooo happy..then i had the other interview in the mean time cause as you all know it takes forever for them to call you and i kind of liked this new place too...

Please opinions....advice??

Thanks,

The float position wil give you tons of valuable experience, more so than long term care.

You could actually take both, you know, and give them different days for availability. If one is better than the other, or develops better over time, you can sorta slide over that way more.

But if you only want to take one right now: Take the public position and ride your bike on your days off :).

I agree with GrnTea. If it were me, I'd be trying to figure out a way to do both, since neither is full time. Then you can drop one later if it doesn't suit you and the other does. You'll get different experience with each.

Thanks...I thought about doing both but i gave my availability as anytime to both positions..is it bad to change it now?
