I hate you and if you pull something like you did last night I'm going to throw you in the toilet....however your "Easter Eggs" amuse me, so I might have to forgive you for making me repeat myself 3 times while standing next to a howling patient who decided to get out of bed without help and fell and peed all over herself before I went to the door and started screaming for help myself. :banghead:

Specializes in ICU, medsurg/tele.

definitely not a fan! once my vocera called someone's phone and all they heard was my patient screaming all sorts of profanities at 2am. oops. and when i actually need someone it takes me just as long to get the thing to work as it would take me to physically find someone.

Specializes in Emergency.

Ha!! I thought my hospital was the only one that made us use these defective pieces of c***!! None of my nurse friends at other hospitals have even heard of the Vocera, and they don't even know how lucky they are!! I am sure I will be on BP meds one day because of it!! It goes off all day, it NEVER works when you need it to, and for the most part it is only good for one thing- making a stressful shift even more stressful. One very bad day, alone in the med room, I had absolutely had it with EVERYTHING. I was trying to reach someone, it SURPRISE connected me to the wrong person, again, and in a moment of sheer frustration, I swore at the vocera. Try it- you'll see what happens. It made me laugh at the time. But I still would like to stick it in the microwave most days.

Specializes in ED, OR, SAF, Corrections.

I loathe it. You repeat a name over and over and it doesn't 'get it', or you -clearly - say Stacy Smith and it asks you "Did you mean John Plain?" Which sounds NOTHING like what you just said. Ugh! We got them because we (still) do not have an intercom system in the OR. I'm SO not a fan either.

voice rec soft wear=made for male voice. some adapts with use, but if different persons are using it, i can't imagine it could do that...

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

I'm so glad my facility does not utilize Voceras. The other hospital I worked at did and you're right, it NEVER worked. "Call ___ ____." "I'm sorry, I did not understand." "CALL ____ ____!" "Are you trying to call ____ _____?" (different name) :banghead:

Specializes in Trauma-Surgical, Case Management, Clinic.

Lol, I hated the vocera when I first started using it! I've grown to become very dependent on it. Sometimes it does do what it wants to do instead of what you want it to do, but I love it. I've worked places without it and it is a pain when you need immediate help and can't find anyone, so then you have to go out in the hall and scream help or walk around until you find others who are not busy. It's time consuming when you are looking for a particular person and have to walk the entire unit. Or if you just need to call another dept, it saves so much time instead of having to go look up the ext and call.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

Good morning. Please say or spell your first and last name.

You had calls from a phone and twelve people not from your unit.

Specializes in Certified Med/Surg tele, and other stuff.

OMG, those are all so true. :lol2::lol2:

So is with the Easter thing? I need to try that one. Admin, did block funny vocera,(except for 'beam me up') so we only have boring vocera that doesn't seem to understand English.

I don't know if everyone has this on yours, but ours has the following:

Nurse: Vocera, what group am I in.

Vocera: You are in Med/Surg group. Med/surg charge nurse. Med/Surg...everyone...everywhere..

 OMG, I have been assimilated! The Borg have taken over.:lol2:

Specializes in ICU, ER, EP,.

nope, have no idea:eek:

Specializes in Tele, CVIU.

I think of Vocera as a source of amusement. I think it's hilarious when you ask it to log in someone and it says it's logging in someone with a completely different name! I look at it as a way to break up the seriousness that comes with our very busy cardiovascular interventional unit. :)

Oh yeah I've sworn at it- or actually I've told it to "shut up" and it does the same thing. I've turned on Funny Genie and done the beam me up/down...I read once where someone was trying to call a code over the Vocera and it unlocked an EE that played the Chicken Dance! I've tried to figure out how to do that one. There's a You Tube video some guy made where he actually has 2 Vocera's "arguing" with each other. It's basically 5 minutes of "Vocera"....."I didn't understand"..."Vocera"...."I didn't understand''...and so forth, and you know, nursing, especially nights has twisted my brain in such a fashion that I find it hysterical, and my husband just looks at me like I've lost it-- laughing at it like our 3 year old does at someone comedically falling on their butt over and over....:lol2:
