crappy nurses day

Nurses General Nursing

Published

They've changed our week into a day here.

and our gift is a book on nursing theory. No beach towel, no beer cooler-we got a beer tote with bottle opener one year-that was the bomb, no umbrella, no tote bag that says happey nurses week. This saddens me.

I don't want a book on nursing theory.

I want some icecream, and a big banner that says Happy Nurses week.

Everyone else gets a banner-Theres resp. week, lab week, pharm week, I remember seeing these banners just up a few weeks ago. *** is up with that. I know times are tough. but how much does it cost to put a freaken banner up. and have the administrater come around saying "thanks for doing a good job"

Anybody want a book on nursing theory ?

Wow. Nurses (and CNA's, techs, and any nursing students who were in the building) at my hospital were served lunch or dinner by senior management. They converted a conference room into a cafe and served sit down meals (nice ones too) to all the staff. It was pretty classy. All managers from department level up to our CEO were there serving meals. This is the second year they've done this.

I never thought I'd spend a whole career in one place, but if that's what the rest of you have to look forward to, I may end up staying right where I am. :loveya:

I think you are being somewhat short-sighted. Tell the powers that be how much you all like the book. Read the book. Ask that you have a task force to implement the nursing theories in the book. I don't know of any theorist that conceives of nursing as nonstop customer service with no breaks or meals for the hop-till-you-drop RN. I think you got a gift from heaven if you use it right.

Got a card and a small paper date book for 2009, and some turkey wraps for lunch. My hubby sent me a bouquet of flowers for Nurses' Day. He knows it means a lot to me.:flowersfo

Our facility got a crappy copied poem inside a handmade card, all that was written was "Thanks for all you do" and by the way was late, believe me, we were less than enthused about our "gift". Last year I was a nursing supervisor, and got a cool t-shirt, with a coffee mug that matched, a fancy card that all of management signed and a bag of candy, then I went back to being a floor nurse due to family issues, I wonder what the supervisors got this year??:angryfire

So try getting nothing...LOL.

Yep-I got diddly squat! Nothing!!!

Question....have you ever seen a book on healthcare admin for bosses day?...or nothing on Dr's day? You bet your sweet bippy you haven't. I did like the idea about recognising each other.....Nice way to build a caring team...Kudos to classic for the idea.

You know with financial cutbacks, high unemployment and the recession I am happy I am still working and have medical insuracne. We also had a nurses day not a week and no gift but we made our own day. Perhaps you and your co-workers could start your own yearly nurses week celebration.

Yeppers...... I got absolutely nothing as well. Actually I would have appreciated the book. It's waaaaaay better than nothing...at least they are thinking of you all in some aspect.
