Computer charting

Anyone out there use hand held Toughbooks or another hand held device to do computer charting? I saw a nurse in pre-op the other day using a small Toughbook with a touch screen. She completed her charting so quickly!! I was wondering if anyone else uses this, and if so, what application do you use? Our hospital uses CPM and I HATE IT! We have to go from mouse to keyboard constantly and it makes charting very cumbersome. I have searched and searched some more for better programs in which to chart, but can't find much. Any thoughts?

I'm confused. Don't you have to chart in whatever system your hospital uses...?

Yes, we do. However, we are experiencing a restructure in our OR and management has asked us for suggestions on what will make our jobs easier. A new computer charting system tops my list.

Well, don't hold your breath. You will get what's given to you and LIKE it! (::rolleyes:

Hmm--the idea of carrying a laptop from room to room seems like it would be a hygiene issue, plus I think it would get really annoying to carry around (I'm a student, and we're required to carry large clipboards everywhere for paperwork, and they are both gross and cumbersome). But would definitely tell them that you want a system that is either all mouse or all keyboard--switching back and forth is so slow!
