CNA Class or Pre-Requisites First??

Nurses General Nursing

Hi, so my dilemma is whether or not I should take the classes to become a CNA this coming Spring 2009 semester or if I should start taking my pre-requisites this Spring? I really want to become a nurse but I know that I cannot get into a program overnight. The soonest I would be able to apply would be in September 2009 if I started my pre-requisites now. I only have 3 classes to take until I can apply (I already have a B.S. degree in biology). However, my problem is what if I don't get in the first try? I am really anxious to be started working in the health field in some form. The only way for me to do this would be to become a CNA. In this case, I could work (and not have to live soley on loans) while taking the pre-requisites. But the other side of this dilemma for me is that if I do the CNA classes first, it will take me that much longer until I can apply to nursing school.

Any thoughts?

Hi. Since you're not getting any answers in this forum (Diploma, ADN, BSN), I'm going to move it to the general nurses forum where more people will see it.

Good luck!

Why can't you do both? I took my CNA class at the community college where I took my pre-reqs. They worked in into the school semester, so it brought my GPA up and I could still take other classes

CNA is a very easy class. You won't have to put in much study time.

Since you have another degree and can probably make way more money than being a CNA I'm not sure I'd even bother. It is really hard work for very little money and while the students in my class that were CNAs had a big advantage in the first semester when I was trying to figure out how to take a BP after that I really didn't think there was any difference. Have you looked into an accelerated BSN program at a university? That is probably the route I'd go. Good luck to you!
