Chicago RN Hourly Rate/Salary

Hello All,

I'm posting my hourly rate/annual salary as a resource for anyone looking to get an RN job in downtown Chicago.

I've been a nurse for 4.5 years, BSN prepared, BMTCN (bone marrow transplant certified, kind of a fancy OCN). I work full time (36 hours/week) at Rush University Medical Center on a bone marrow transplant/hematology unit.

My hourly rate is $31.62 per hour, with a $4/hour night shift differential. We also get $2.25/hour for weekends (Friday/Sat/Sun) and $2.50/hour as a charge nurse. So, on a weekend my hourly rate as a charge nurse is $40.37/hour (I like being charge on weekends, lol). I'm not sure where my base salary rests compared to other equally experienced nurses in Chicago. Where I may have the advantage is our floor's staffing ratios. Our unit staffs 1 nurse to 3 patients on days and 1 to 4 on nights (with 3 PCTs/NAs on days and 2 overnight).

What does all this add up to in a year? With all of my scheduled shifts, two holidays per year, and maybe 5-6 OT/extra shifts in a year my salary came to be $74,000 for all of 2014.

Please post other RN salaries to help give people RN job hunting in Chicago some info. I know I would've appreciated it about two years ago!
