How can I find out how long ET tubes last in their package. I would hate to have ours not inflate because the plastic has deteriorated over time but I don't want to ask for new ones if it isn't necessary.

Hmmm, off hand, I don't know
. Check manufacturer's recommendations. They may even have a website.
We always inflate the cuff before intubating patient to check for proper cuff inflation. Only takes a second.

Our code cart/ett stuff is maintained by materials management, they have a note on the outside when the "stuff" expires, including the respiratory packs, so they are rotated in and out and the "stuff" is replaced but I don't know how they came up with when the things each expire. In an emergency, a tube without a cuff will "work" for a while, if held in place, but I wouldn't want to be put in that position either.
