Charitable Medical Teams - Would Like Info

Has anybody participated in a charitable organization providing emergency/relief medical skills internationally? If you have I'd like to hear about your experiences, and advice to someone considering it. Which organizations are credible, well-organized, safe for the participants, etc? I probably wouldn't be a good fit in an organization where religion/ministry is the dominant theme, as I seek participation purely as a humanitarian.
