Can I take NCLEX-PN?

Nurses General Nursing

I'm a BSN graduate from the philippines and now residing in california. I'm currently waiting for my eligibility to take the NCLEX-RN and I still have to wait for two more months. While waiting, it somehow struck in my mind about LVN. I know that BSN is higher than LVN.

I just want to know if I can apply to take NCLEX-PN too? will the BVNPT credit the curriculum of nursing from the philippines just like the NCLEX-RN do?

just wait for the nclex-rn process to finish. why would you want to waste your time & money on the nclex-pn when the the rn is already being processed.

I just want to have a "plan B" just in case....you know....at least my mind is still fresh because the processing time for the PN exam could only take 8 weeks. If I try to send my application this month, then the two eligibilities might only have a couple of weeks or maybe a month gap. whichever comes first, I'll take the exam right away. I stayed here for 10 months now. I don't want to see that a year of my life was wasted and gone nowhere.

Money is not "yet" or sort of a problem for me for now because I'm still single and I don't send money to any people in the philippines (filipinos know what I'm talking about hehehe). So I can still say that the money I'm earning is "all mine".

Back to the question. Can I take PN exam? will the BVNPT accept the curriculum of my country?

you could take the PN if you wanted to. The application is almost the same.

But if I were you, I would just wait for the RN. It's a waste to do LPN because then an employer might be looking for RN's then you will be an LPN for only a month or two........ and the training... because they haeve to train you.....

Does not make sense to apply for PN when you already have a process for RN as will still take a few months to go through the PN before getting ATT as different application and you will still have to submit transcripts etc again. Much better to concentrate on study for RN

I wouldn't even think about taking the PN exam. Unless you have been through a bridge type program that CLEARLY defines the differences in scope of practice, you could run into problems...it is just too easy to do things that you can't do as an LPN because you have the training from your RN program.

If you had to wait a year to take the RN exam I'd probably say yes, but it's only two months. If you take the PN exam and pass it, then you have no time to get hired and oriented before you take the RN exam. If you pass that too, you have taken a PN exam spot away from someone who NEEDS to take that exam because that will be his/her livelihood.

yes i know what you are talking about regarding sending money to the philippines. i still do that. i send money to my dad, grandma, and my cousin who i am helping with her bsn education.

yes you can take the nclex-vn/pn with your bsn degree from the philippines. i have a couple of rns from work who did that but they told me it was due to the fear of failing the rn test. they said at least they would have the lpn license if the rn thing didn't work out.

but even so, it is only 45 days until you take the next exam again (am i correct guys?). so really just focus on your nclex-rn and don't think about failing it. even if you do fail (god forbid), it is not the end of the world because you can take it again in 45 days.

i should be taking my nclex-pn (nj) next month and i am not worried about failing because i know it is not the end of the world for me. i will just take it again and will try to study/review harder.

good luck with your nclex!!

just to add because your profile indicates you are still in the philippines but for immigration you need to be a rn not pn so doing it will make no difference unless you are getting a visa via another route ie marriage to a usc

yeah i kinda had a pretty good idea about your "plan b". :D

i think the fee for both nclex are the same.

if you truly believe that taking the nclex-pn would be beneficial for you, then by all means go ahead and take it.

what about this, take your nclex-rn first then once you get the result then decide about the nclex-pn then? just my suggestion.

like what the saying says "try and try until you die". i don't know, i remember that saying back home when i was in high school. :D

thanks for the luck. hopefully, we both don't have to do a second try.
