Will High Blood Pressure keep a person from getting hired at a hospital? I start in December at a local hospital as a PCT. Gave a 30 day notice to my current employer. & was canned one day after giving notice.

The reason I ask is my blood pressure top number ranges 140 to 160/ & the bottom number is 88 to 100. Not asking for medical advice in anyway. Just wondering if blood pressure with those numbers can keep one from passing a Hospital Physical?

It may require you actually get treated for it, I've worked with several aides/nurses w/HTN, but really, for your own health, get it down :)

I've known many people, hospital workers even, with high blood pressure. seriously doubt that it would keep you from getting hired but like the last poster said, you need to get it down for your own health benefit. :) Good luck!

while i agree with the pp who said it's worth treating, i wouldn't give the idea of it keeping you from getting a job another thought.

if hospitals only hired completely healthy people with no medical history (is there really such a thing??), the nursing shortage would be a whole lot worse. (not to mention the discrimination suits!) they just want to know you're capable of performing your job duties.
