one of my patients called me a maid this weekend. umph.. the lady was a 40 year old very rich lady who just gave birth to a cute baby boy. i think she had to much epidural. she put on her call light and said to the unit clerk " send my maid in please, i need a lortab" . i went in and explained i was not a maid i was a RN , she said to me " whatever, can i get something for pain?" i float to surgical next week and it will be nice for the change. anyone else ever called something other than your job? lol

I once had a patient's son come to the desk and ask for the "bedpan specialist.'

I did not leap across the counter and strangle him, mostly because I was pregnant at the time.

When I waddled into the room the poor man had three grown sons standing there watching. I looked around and said "help or get out!"

I've been called a waitress before - didn't bug me too much.

Sure beats a M*$%^# F*^&@%^ B*#^% - yep, that one does get to me!

lol ... yes nursing keeps us strong... sure isn't a job for the faint of heart... there's gotta be a special place in heaven for us... :uhoh3:

I would say, "What are you doing having a kid at 40?" JK. Talk about advanced maternal age!! Sometimes people with money are so freakin' warped. She probably has no idea exactly how hard working and educated an RN is. Seriously though, off the subject, but my sister in law had her first baby at 42. NOT FOR ME. When I am 40, my daughter will be 20, and my son 17. Hell, I might even be a grandma at 40. Pro's and con's to having kids early and late. But not too late(don't want those eggs getting old and crusty).:lol2:

Was I called a maid? Not exactly, but my last night working the call bell went off for my VIP pt... and I answered it "Come in here immediately, we have a lot of problems."

So I go down there.

Nevermind the IV pump for his daughters TPN never beeped once all night long, that she was not woken up when her labs were drawn, or anything of the sort...

"Why wasn't the garbage taken out last night from here?"

I just said "Because housekeeping takes care of it in the morning."

This is the same guy who shoved a bag of popcorn at me demanding that I go pop it for him, bring juice and soda, and refused his daughters 4am vital signs (in the hospital for kidney failure and HUS) because he didn't want to be woken up. Otherwise it wouldn't have been a problem... but with 4 other patients that night... including a burn that took almost 2 hours to do the dressing change...

Also, he was instructed where the parent lounge was for the popcorn and beverages. There are too many way more important things to be concerned with from my perspective. I'm a nurse, not a maid.

From a stretcher in the ER acute beds "STEWARDESS! HEY STEWARDESS"

It wasn't my patient...thank goodness...so I walked by and said that it probably wasn't a good idea...

It wasn't my patient...thank goodness...so I walked by and said that it probably wasn't a good idea...

Not a nurse yet, but have been called a stewardess before. My pt. got "student nurse" confused. After many attempts to politely correct, I gave up and just said I was an aide for the day.
