Bullying in the workplace

Nurses General Nursing

Has anyone experienced this problem in the workplace? Unfortunately I know many people are, has it been enough to force you to look for other employment? My work environment is toxic, and I find myself as the target of a harsh charge nurse. By no means I am a new nurse, I have worked from A to B for the past 20 years. So I can handle most situations, and coworkers.

I work in a medical surgical environment with mostly RN coworkers, my charge nurse has singled me out for being "just the lpn", interferes with any conversation I attempt to have with anyone.Reminds me daily that I can not take orders, I know my scope of practice well. And am in second semester RN. She discourages me from taking a lunch break but making sure she calls me to the nurses desk for literally anything she can think of. She also takes the credit for many situations that I have assessed correctly and made appropriate interventions to help my patient. She speaks to me frequently by "dumbing down" vocabulary. I treat my superiors with respect, work very hard at providing excellent care for my patients, and I care deeply. I am regrettably looking for other employment, I enjoy the experience that a medical-surgical floor provides, but I see no other option. Thank you for reading/listening. Any advice appreciated !

From your detailed description, it does sound like this woman has targeted you. Ugh. Hurry up and finish that RN, and look for greener pastures. That woman sounds entrenched!

Yep going through that with a coworker right now. I have talked to my manager and she is investigating by talking to others on the floor that have witnessed her behaviour ( she targets me).We are going to sit down with HR and a union rep soon to discuss her behaviour.

Best of luck.

Mine has been more horizontal from other coworkers rather than superiors. That does sound awful. Is there anyone above her who would listen to you and do something? Of course, that could make it worse:/
