the greatest sneakers i have ever owned are $15.00 at walmart. with the little spring-y things on the bottom.

i also invested in a $20.00 pair of cushion-y insoles. they have a one year warranty, so every 11 months i bring them back for new ones. i find any shoe is a good shoe with good insoles.

i also never, ever wear the same shoes two days in a row. i alternate between 3 pairs and i no longer have any back problems.

Thank you all for your suggestions. While searching online I found a store close to where I live that has a few different brands mentioned, so I think I will go try some on and see what I like best. Thanks again.

I've heard a lot of people rave about Dansko. Only problem is, I haven't seen a "wide foot" line. I have very high arches and kind of wide feet and I can't find a nursing shoe that fits without having TONS of pain from Plantar Faciitis. I recently bought from a website of C and C Sweden. I got the clogs and had to have them stretched. They were a great wear other than the pain at the top of my foot from the high arch issue. Now I'm back to Sketchers. Not bad honestly. Have to wear a sole insert tho. I honestly dont' think there is such a thing as the perfect nursing shoe. It's going to be whatever works for you and that's all I can give as advice. :>

Have a good day

Wow, I'm so glad someone started this post - I have also just started the search for the perfect pair of nursing shoes (starting school in two weeks!!!) I have a question though - someone mentioned support hose, and I have seen these on the nursemates website - what exactly do these do? I know, maybe that's a stupid question, but I'm sort of well, a hippie chick who's been working a lot outdoors and lives in Teva's - I've pretty much avoided any sort of formal clothing or pantyhose my entire life -but does this really help your legs feel better while you're standing all day/night? They don't feel suffocating?

Well, just wondering....thanks again for the thread!

If you like tevas, you will love the danskos. Not only are they comfortable, but they look good. Well worth the money as they will last you for many years.

Good luck in school!

I have to put in a plug for Crocs. Innexpensive, washable and durable, and they massage your feet all day. They're lightweight---nearly like going barefoot. A friend of mine has them because of the neuropathy she has in her feet---she doesn't feel pain when she wears these! (She has 6 pairs

!) As a matter of fact, she says PayLess Shoes makes a brand (Airwalk) that mimmics Crocs, and is just as good, for $10 less. icon14.gif

Yes, I wondering about the Crocs. I have been hearing a lot more about these lately. Really good reviews. Anyone else have any more info on Crocs? Thanks!

I have worn Crocs, Birks, and Dansko. Right now I'm in love with my Dansko clogs. It was a hard choice between them and another pair of Birks (can't believe no one else has mentioned them??) Both proved to be great shoes.

As for the Crocs, lots of the other nurses love them. I have flat feet and always end up with my legs aching if I wear the Crocs all night long. Considering how inexpensive they are compared to the other brands they are worth a try. I now use mine to run quick errands in since they didn't pass the 12+ hour test.

I just looked up Dansko's professionals on zappos.com and they have 5's (they use European sizes, but they have the equivalent - (35). Alot of people order up a size if they aren't sure or are in between - I got both since I wasn't sure and sure enough the bigger of the two worked.

Crocs are excellent-especially for wide feet. Do NOT use the knock-offs-they are not as good, and do not hold up! I bought all my staff a pair of Crocs for Nurses' Day ($35), and everyone loves them. Granted, another pair of good supportive shoes should also be worn intermittantly. Saves on wear and is good for your feet !

i have to get a new pair of shoes to wear to clinicals when they start and i was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good brand?

thanks

bar none; sas, probably the most expensive but simply the best! edit-wow, after reviewing what some pay for these other brands, sas are not the most expensive, they cost around $65-$75/pr. they are extremely popular here in florida, also in n.carolina where i went to school! they are super light, well constructed and have a great arch support. they last forever! they are sold in stand alone sas franchise stores.
